Lets face it, in the north east it has been hot hot hot over the past week. If you have dogs, you can feel my pain that I could not walk them or even bring them outside to play without getting them wet first. Most of the time my Saint Bernard would not even go out the door in the heat. My kids eat ice pops and ice cream to cool off in the summer heat and have a treat, so that got me to thinking...maybe I could make something frozen for my dogs to cool off also.
Since I am working on a campaign for Bzzagent on Fage Total Yogurt (I got it free to try) and I have been having so much fun trying out their recipes for my family, maybe I can make a frosty treat for my dogs with Fage Total Yogurt. I know they have Frosty Paws ice cream for dogs in the stores, but I could not bring myself to pay the amount of money they are asking for them. That is when I decided to make my own Frosty treat for my two beef cakes using Fage Total Yogurt. Here is what I did:
32 oz. plain Fage Total Yogurt
1 mashed banana
2 Tablespoons peanut butter
2 Tablespoons honey
1. Mix all these ingredients in your blender, then pour into ice cube trays or even a kong toy to freeze and serve. Be sure the mold you freeze your treat into is either 1. large enough that your dog won't be able to swallow it whole when frozen solid. or 2. Shaped, like our bone ice cube trays, with slender sections so it can be crunched easier.
It was that easy! And my dogs loved loved loved it. Now, if you are a fancy smancy baker (of cooker as my daughter would say) you can get your mixture and spread it out on waxed paper (about 1 to 2 inches thick and freeze for about ten minutes, and then use a cookie cutter to cut out fun shapes for your precious pooch! Think doggie bone cookie cutters, or cat cookie cutters if your dogs hate cats as much as mine do! Then just pop back in the freezer until they are frozen solid. Easy peasy and a great yummy frosty treat for your dogs on those hot summer days.
If you have any Fage Total yogurt left after making your doggie treats there are a ton of great recipes here to make interesting new dinners for your family too! If you have a favorite recipe made with yogurt, shoot me an email with it, I will post it and try it! I am always looking for new ways to spice up my dinner menu. Stay cool peeps!
